Brushing & Flossing With Braces

Brushing and Flossing

The above video offers some tips and information for patients wearing braces.
While wearing braces, you need to be extra diligent with maintaining good oral hygiene during treatment.

Brushing and Flossing with Braces

Are you tired of food stuck in your braces? Are you concerned about how your teeth and gums fare with braces? Maintaining proper dental hygiene is crucial when wearing braces. Here are some pointers and techniques to assist you in proper brushing and flossing.

Brushing with Braces:
Select the appropriate toothbrush: A toothbrush with soft bristles is kind to your teeth and braces.

Brush right away after eating since food fragments can get caught in your braces and lead to a build up of plaque, which can result from tooth cavities and gum disease. To avoid this, make it a routine to brush your teeth after each meal.

To thoroughly clean braces and teeth, tilt your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle toward the gum line. Next, the brackets and wires should be gently brushed using circular strokes.

Flossing with Braces:
Use flossers (designed for use with braces - like Platypus)nto help you floss between your teeth and around the brackets and under the wires. If you don't have flossers you can use floss threaders. To floss effectively, feed the floss through the threader and direct it under the wire and between your teeth.

Use waxed floss to avoid getting trapped or tearing when brushing your teeth while wearing braces. In addition, waxed floss is simpler to move freely between braces and teeth without getting snagged.

Daily flossing is necessary to eliminate food particles and plaque your toothbrush can't reach.

After flossing, rinse your mouth completely with water or mouthwash to remove any leftover food particles.

Using these tips and tactics, you can maintain good dental hygiene and keep your braces clean and in good condition. Remember to make routine dental checkups and braces maintenance appointments with your dentist. Dental hygiene is the first step to a healthy smile!
